Quick installation in critical sewage valve replacement
Project background
Two DN900 valves connected to a cast iron pipe with a diameter of 900 millimeters, a pipe of DN800 and two pipes of DN500 needed to be replaced within eight hours. “Timely replacement is crucial as the sewage pumping stations can only buffer for a maximum of eight hours” emphasizes Peter Stoop, maintenance engineer at HHNK. The pipeline system, specifically designed for wastewater transportation from the municipality’s collection point to the treatment plant, requires prompt reconnection to ensure proper discharge.
Selected technical solution
Due to the limited time window, MULTI/JOINT® was chosen as the preferred technical solution. It offers quick installation without the need to remove bolts, providing a plug-and-play experience interface. “In the past, the pipelines needed to be aligned and facing each other. There was no room for corrections during the installation. With MULTI/JOINT® there is space to correct angular misalignment” says site supervisor Richard Groot.
Achieved improvement
“GF won this tender because they offer support from A to Z and their product came out best” Peter Stoop confirmed. GF emerged as the winning bidder, providing comprehensive support and timely delivery of products. The challenge in this project was the misalignment of the existing pipes. Many fittings cannot accommodate that angularity, but MULTI/JOINT® can. This strong fitting has a nominal angularity of 8 degrees on both sides, so 16 degrees in total. The project concluded with the successful operation of the newly placed valves, activation of sewage pumps, and timely flow of wastewater to the treatment plant. Thanks to the quick installation, the environment could be protected from any harmful leaks.
