In Northern Hungary, a crucial DN600 junction supplying potable water to twelve municipalities required urgent renovation. The installation, consisting of more than 50-year-old cast-iron pipes and valves, had reached the end of its service life and posed an increasing risk of failure. Because of its strategic importance, the reconstruction window was extremely limited: the system had to be replaced overnight and returned to full operation before morning. Speed, reliability and absolute installation safety were therefore essential for the project’s success.
Crucial junction renewal completed overnight
Project background
The project, commissioned by ÉRV Zrt., focused on replacing a DN600 junction and valve chamber serving a wide regional network near Miskolc. The existing installation had been in operation for over 50 years and showed clear signs of aging, increasing the risk of failure. Because the pipeline was part of an active supply system feeding twelve municipalities, shutdown time had to be kept to an absolute minimum. Furthermore, the valve chamber was flooded, and confined space made the installation process particularly challenging. That required precise planning and a controlled overnight execution schedule.
Selected technical solution
To meet the tight timeframe and challenging conditions, MULTI/JOINT® 3000 Plus fittings were chosen. The assembly included two DN600 flange adaptors with a stainless-steel pipe section, enabling a secure, precise connection between new components and the existing cast-iron pipeline. Components were supplied directly from GF distributor Interex-Waga, ensuring seamless logistics. The fittings allowed quick alignment, reliable restraint, and reduced installation risks. On-site technical support, provided by Interex-Waga, ensured smooth and confident execution by the team during the night.
Achieved improvement
Work started at 22:00 with draining and removal of the old very heavy cast-iron section. After midnight, the pre-assembled junction was lowered and quickly installed, thanks to its easy alignment. By 05:00, the system was tested, secured, and fully operational, restoring uninterrupted water supply to all twelve municipalities. The project demonstrated how careful planning, skilled installers, and flexible connection technology can dramatically reduce downtime in crucial infrastructure. The renovated junction now provides a durable, corrosion-resistant, and future-proof solution, enhancing reliability and ensuring long-term, safe water delivery for the entire service area.
