The solution for sustainable water management
Project background
Bridges play a crucial role in connecting communities and facilitating the smooth flow of transportation. However, installing pipelines across these structures comes with its own set of challenges. The complexities involved in bridging water demand innovative solutions, and one such solution is the utilization of fittings. One of the main challenges when installing pipelines across bridges is working within tight spatial constraints. The limited space poses difficulties in maneuvering and positioning pipes, making the installation process more intricate. Fittings play a pivotal role in addressing these spatial constraints. Their design allows for flexibility and adaptability, making it easier to fit pipes within the restricted space available on a bridge.
Selected technical solution
SAWACO traditionally used fixed-size fittings for bridge pipe connections. However, these connections were prone to constant leakage caused by shear stress from traffic. As a result, frequent fitting replacements increased both maintenance costs and operational downtime — especially for larger diameter pipes. The MULTI/JOINT® 3000 Plus, with its wide size range and high restraint capacity, offer a reliable solution. It provides a secure connection with a 50-year service life, far surpassing traditional fittings that are prone to deformation.
Achieved improvement
Following installation, the customer reported that the installa-tion time for the DN450 coupler was reduced by 70% compared with regular couplings. The high angular displacement of the pipe connection was easily managed, with the MULTI/JOINT® installed quickly and without difficulty. Upon torque tightening, no leaks were detected when the pipe was normalized back to full pressure. In operation, SAWACO’s maintenance records confirme that the connection has not failed, nor had any leaks occurred. This directly translated into immediate savings through reduced repair frequency and minimized downtime.
