One of the largest Biogas Plants in Switzerland goes for PVC-U Systems

Recycling biogenic waste for energy is a highly promising and sustainable concept for energy production and at the same time has a positive impact on the environment. One of the largest and most modern biogas plant in Switzerland produces 1.9 million m3 of biogas annually.

SwissFarmerPower Inwil (SFPI) near Lucerne utilizes highly integrated and innovative process technology in order to convert 61,000 tons of biomass into biogas every year. Liquid manure, garden waste and biowaste from agriculture and the food industry are processed, treated and the resulting biogas is fed into the regional natural gas network. PVC-U system solutions from GF Piping Systems make sure that treatment processes within the plant, for example ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis, are efficient and reliable.

Fermentation residue processing with diaphragm valves

Before conducting the liquid phase into the sewage system, the fermentation residue must be processed as the excess water from fermentation contains high amounts of solids, ammonium nitrogen, other nutrients and salts. This task is handled in a total fermentation residue processing system with the treatment steps: solids/liquids separation and diaphragm filtration. At the center of customer requirements are an economic pricing strategy in the sense of cost-conscious energy production, high material resistance and a long product service life. The components used, i.e. diaphragm valves, ball valves, pressure reducing valves as well as PVC-U pipes and fittings, are specifically adapted to the media, temperatures and pressures in a biogas plant.

Additionally, the engineers and users have access to comprehensive and high-quality documentation. Besides price lists, product documentation and other downloadable information, the extensive CAD library contributed to the success of this project.
