Innovation Facts

Did you know?

Our innovations are all about you

Innovation is driving us - and we are driving innovation. To respond with state-of-the-art-solutions to the needs of our customers has a long tradition at GF and evolved us to the integrated solutions provider we are today. Founded in 1802 as a small copper smelting plant, the company had its first patent being granted already in 1825 for the production of alloy steel.

When thermoplastic materials were rising in the last century, the division of GF Piping Systems positioned itself as a key player by continuously developing highly innovative products: the first PVC and PE fitting (1957), ball valve (early 1960s), electrofusion fittings and saddles (1974), IR welding technology (1988), PVDF high purity systems (1989) and the ELGEF Plus electrofusion system (1994). More recently, GF reached fame for its pre-insulated COOL-FIT 2.0 system (2015). Today, the division holds about 140 patent families.

Innovation driven environment
To further encourage an innovative mind-set, Design Thinking has been implemented across GF. Design Thinking is a customer centered innovation approach that believes in generating innovative solutions to big development projects and smaller daily work challenges by understanding customers first and applying creative tools such as rapid prototyping. More than 1000 GF employees were trained.

GF Piping Systems runs R&D Centers in the US, Asia and Europe and maintains more than 15 R&D departments close to GF production sites in Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Turkey, China, Indonesia, the US and Canada. Close relations to universities, research institutes and approval bodies and the engagement in ISO, CEN and local standardisation groups enables us to develop reliable solutions, based on our customer's needs.

Because our innovations are all about you.
