PVC-U

Innovation with heritage - Join us on the journey of GF Industry and Infrastructure Flow Solutions' PVC-U history starting in 1955 until today.

The PVC-U system from GF Industry and Infrastructure Flow Solutions offers maximum safety and reliability for countless applications, from drinking water to highly aggressive chemicals. The best possible piping components are also available for special requirements.  Although the PVC-U system has been around for decades, we continue to invest in this product to become more innovative and more sustainable.

PVC-U Plant Sewage Germany

The RBS wave planning agency is exploring the possibility, as an alternative solution, of degrading the phosphate load on a constructed wetland at the Knittlingen water treatment plant situated in the Enz district. For the installations, the instrumentation and control technology included, elements of the PVC-U system from GF Industry and Infrastructure Flow Solutions are being used in the inflow and outflow area and also for the charging facility.

Three Pathways to More Sustainable PVC

Bio‑Attributed PVC

In the production of PVC, fossil crude oil is replaced by renewable feedstocks such as tall oil, a byproduct of paper production, or used cooking oils. These materials are derived from waste and residues and do not compete with the food chain. Using a certified mass balance approach, renewable ethylene is integrated into existing production processes, delivering PVC with up to 75–90% lower carbon footprint while remaining a true drop‑in solution. GF has been on the forefront of sustainable innovation, being the first company to introduce such a material as a standard part of its material mix, helping all PVC-U customers to automatically contribute to a sustainability since 2021. Currently, GF uses 20% of Bio Attributed PVC for its injection molded Valves and Fittings.

PVC made with Renewable Energy

A significant share of PVC’s environmental impact comes from energy used during its production. By sourcing 100% renewable electricity, producers reduce emissions across the production chain. PVC resin produced with renewable power typically achieves around 30% lower CO₂ emissions compared to conventional PVC, helping customers reduce Scope 3 emissions without any change in material properties or processing behaviour. GF uses such PVC resins for 100% of its DEKADUR pipe extrusion.

Circular PVC - Turning waste into new raw material

Circular PVC goes beyond traditional recycling. Plastic waste that cannot be mechanically recycled is broken down into its molecules and reused as a starting point for PVC production. This advanced recycling approach enables the production of virgin‑quality PVC made from 100% recycled carbon, supporting circular economy goals while meeting the highest technical and regulatory standards. Being the newest of developments, Circular PVC just starts to become commercially available and is not yet part of GFs raw material mix.
