Durable, corrosion-resistant, and cost-effective piping for sulfur emission reduction
Since 2020, the International Maritime Organization has required a reduction in the maximum sulfur limit in marine fuels from 3.5% to 0.5%. To comply, ships must use low-sulfur fuels, gas, or adopt scrubbing technology while continuing to use high-sulfur fuel oils (HSFO). Exhaust gas scrubbers remove sulfur from emissions, allowing the use of HSFO. Plastic piping in scrubbers plays a critical role, offering corrosion resistance, chemical stability, and lightweight properties. Materials like PVDF (polyvinylidene fluoride) and CPVC (chlorinated polyvinyl chloride) are ideal for handling acidic effluents.
