Future-ready cooling infrastrucutre for high-density data centers

Learn how the German colocation provider NETMOUNTAINS deployed a scalable liquid cooling infrastructure to support high-performance workloads - all delivered within tight project timelines.

When performance demands outgrow conventional cooling

As rack densities increase, traditional air cooling approaches their limits both in efficiency and energy consumption. Direct-to-chip liquid cooling provides a clear path forward, enabling significantly higher heat removal and supporting next-generation workloads.

For operators, the challenge is not only cooling performance itself, but also to ensure long-term reliability and scalability. This was the case for the German co-location provider NETMOUNTAINS.

Project at a glance

  • Location: Velbert, Germany
  • Application: Colocation data center
  • Cooling concept: Direct-to-chip liquid cooling
  • Rack density: up to 66 kW
  • Deployment time: 6 - 8 weeks
  • Scope: End-to-end piping system across gray and white space (FWS + TCS)

The Challenge

Balancing performance, efficiency, and future growth.

The new facility was designed to support high-density workloads of up to 66 kW per rack while remaining flexible for multi-megawatt expansion.

At the same time, operational reliability and energy efficiency were critical. Cooling performance needed to remain stable over time, without introducing additional maintenance complexity. All within a six-week delivery window.

The Solution

A cooling infrastructure built for performance and stability.

Together with Rittal, GF delivered a fully integrated liquid cooling system: from facility water to in-rack distribution.

By using engineered polymer piping across all cooling loops, the system ensures:

  • Stable thermal performance over time

  • Consistent coolant quality for sensitive components

  • Reduced risk of corrosion and performance degradation

The result: a reliable and future-ready cooling backbone.

Built for performance. Proven under pressure.

Deployed in just six weeks, the cooling infrastructure at NETMOUNTAINS supports high-density workloads with stable, efficient performance. Designed to scale, the system enables long-term operation without compromising reliability or energy efficiency.
