Scalable cooling for high-density workloads

NETMOUNTAINS implements direct-to-chip liquid cooling for efficient data center operation. Discover how a complete piping solution - from dry cooler to in-rack manifolds - was delivered from a single source.

When cooling becomes the limiting factor

As data center performance continues to scale, thermal management is becoming a critical constraint. Traditional air cooling systems are increasingly challenged by rising rack densities and energy demands, while direct-to-chip liquid cooling enables higher efficiency and performance. At the same time, implementing such systems requires a reliable and scalable infrastructure, especially under tight timelines.

This was the case for NETMOUNTAINS, who deployed a high-density cooling solution for a new data center in Velbert, Germany within just six weeks.

Project at a glance

  • Location: Velbert, Germany
  • Application: Colocation data center
  • Cooling concept: Direct-to-chip liquid cooling
  • Rack density: up to 66 kW
  • Deployment time: 6 weeks
  • Scope: End-to-end piping system (FWS + TCS)

The Challenge

High density, high complexity, limited time.

The new facility was designed for maximum flexibility, enabling multi-megawatt expansion as demand grows. At the same time, the cooling infrastructure needed to support rack densities of up to 66 kW.

Beyond performance, the project was defined by time:
the full cooling infrastructure had to be implemented within a six-week construction window.

Delivering this required more than individual components. It required a coordinated system approach across all cooling loops.

The Solution

From chiller to chip—fully integrated.

NETMOUNTAINS partnered with Rittal as system integrator and GF for the complete piping infrastructure.

GF delivered a fully engineered polymer-based solution covering:

  • Facility Water System (FWS)

  • Technology Cooling System (TCS)

  • In-rack manifolds and connections

  • Additional mission-critical hydronic systems

The scope included design, engineering, prefabrication, on-site support, and the full bill of materials, all from a single source.

Where performance meets precision

6 weeks build. Rack densities beyond conventional limits. 100% reliable cooling from day one.

Delivering this project successfully required reliability, speed, and system stability.

  • End-to-end system delivery
A coordinated solution across all cooling loops reduced interface complexity and ensured smooth integration between all stakeholders.
  • Fast deployment through prefabrication
Pre-fabricated and pre-tested components enabled rapid installation on-site, which supported the six-week construction timeline.
  • Stable operation for sensitive cooling systems
The use of corrosion-free polymer piping ensured consistent flow conditions and protected coolant quality. This is critical for direct-to-chip cooling.
  • Built for scalable growth
The infrastructure supports increasing rack densities and future expansion without redesign.
