Sustainable Operations

How you do things matters: GF Piping Systems is a responsible company, and environmentally conscious manufacturing is just as much a part of our philosophy as offering world class systems and services for sustainable flow solutions. We know that sustainability is important to our customers and when they choose to work with us, they want to know that this is as much a part of our core as it is theirs. So how do we make our manufacturing more sustainable, how are we decoupling resource consumption from growth to have a positive impact on climate and resources? From emissions, to water, to waste and supply chain – there are a number of key areas we are tackling in our operations around the world to reduce our impact. Watch the video to find out how we operate sustainably.

Increasing Energy Efficiency and Reducing CO₂e Emissions

To save energy and reduce emissions, we have set clear goals to achieve and follow through on: by 2026, we want to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 CO₂e emissions by 30%, and by 2030, we want to reduce scope 3 by 34.6%. At our manufacturing sites, taking a critical look at our energy consumption and sources as well as identifying subsequent actions is having a significant impact. From LED lighting, to procuring the most efficient machineries and reusing waste heat, we are taking a wide range of actions to make our facilities as efficient as possible. Generating our own renewable energy from sources like solar panels is another key step we are tackling to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Watch the video to find out how we are lowering CO₂e emissions and increasing energy efficiency worldwide.

Reducing Water and Waste Intensity

As a manufacturer, we inevitably require water and produce waste – it is our responsibility to do so as responsibly as we can. To reduce our water consumption, we are implementing a number of ways such as rainwater collection and recycling systems. Meanwhile, we reduce waste sent to landfill or incineration through proper waste management as well as developing new innovations for the packaging of our products.

People & Well-being

We continuously invest in comprehensive training, state-of-the-art safety equipment, and rigorous safety protocols that ensure the well-being of our employees and the integrity of our operations. Further, we implement accredited safety standards and management systems and carry out internal and external safety audits. By fostering a caring and safe culture, we make all our employees feel valued and safe at work.

FAQs

Are plastic or metal pipes more sustainable?

Piping systems made of plastics are maintenance-free, light, and very durable as opposed to metal pipes. They contribute to the increased reliability of the system while lowering maintenance costs and staff requirements. They are excellently suited for applications involving drinking and sewage water, coolants, acids, leaches, and other chemicals, as well as abrasive compounds. Weighing up to 60 % less than metal systems, they have lower static requirements and are easier to transport. Innovative jointing technologies such as cementing or integrated electrofusion allow them to be installed up to 50 % faster. What is more, their low carbon dioxide footprint, energy efficiency, and recyclability are essential in lowering their environmental impact. Find out more about our sustainable portfolio here.

What is an EPD?

An EPD is an Environmental Product Declaration, which is a third-party verified document providing the information of a product’s environmental impact during it’s lifecycle. You can find our EPDs here.
