The cost of noise

A well-designed drainage system should work quietly in the background. When the wrong system is selected, it becomes a constant source of disturbance. Noise from fast-moving water, pipe vibration, and loose connections can travel through walls and floors, affecting sleep, disrupting daily activities, and ultimately lowering property value.

Conventional materials have clear drawbacks. Cast iron is heavy and prone to corrosion over time, while standard PVC allows noise to pass through easily. Today’s drainage solutions must go beyond basic function—delivering acoustic comfort while also meeting requirements for fire safety, chemical resistance, and long-term durability.

Redefiining expectations

Modern buildings are evaluated on more than just functionality. Occupant wellbeing, comfort, and overall living experience are now key measures of quality. As a result, developers, architects, and installers increasingly prioritize solutions that limit unwanted noise and improve acoustic comfort.

At the same time, drainage systems must remain durable, easy to install, and environmentally responsible. Traditional materials struggle to meet all these expectations at once. The real challenge lies in achieving the right balance between performance, practicality, and sustainability.

Silenta meets this challenge through advanced three-layer pipe technology designed for effective sound absorption and long-term reliability. Combined with fast push-fit installation and a comprehensive product range, Silenta provides the flexibility needed to suit a wide variety of projects.

Modern drainage systems must also address fire safety, chemical resistance, and service life. With growing urban density and stricter building regulations, acoustic performance has become a critical requirement across residential buildings, hotels, hospitals, and office developments.

Acoustic Comfort

Top-tier Acoustic Absorption

Decibels quantify sound, but the numbers alone don’t capture the full experience. When evaluating drainage systems, small differences in decibel levels can result in significant changes in how noise is perceived by building occupants.

Everyday sounds help put acoustic performance into context. From the soft background hum of a refrigerator to the louder disruption of a hair dryer, these familiar examples illustrate how Silenta provides noticeable noise reduction. Lower decibel levels mean quieter indoor environments and improved occupant comfort and wellbeing.

FAQs

Why does acoustic drainage matter and does it affect property values?

Yes. Persistent drainage noise disrupts sleep, increases stress levels, and reduces quality of life. As an acoustic drainage system operates many times daily, the repeated flow noise adds up over time. Buildings designed with a low-noise drainage system achieve better acoustic comfort, higher tenant satisfaction, and often command premium property values.

What causes noise in drainage systems?

Common sources include toilet flushing, direction changes at elbows and junctions, high water flow velocities, and improper installation. These factors create airborne noise and structure-borne noise that transfer into the building. Silenta addresses each of these at the source.

How does Silenta reduce drainage noise?

Silenta 3A and Silenta Premium use a multi-layer PP pipe (3-layer) design. A mineral-reinforced PP middle layer absorbs vibrations and improves noise attenuation, preventing sound transfer into the building structure.

How does Silenta compare to cast iron drainage?

Silenta is four times lighter than cast iron, reducing structural load and simplifying handling. Push-fit connections replace mechanical joints, significantly reducing installation time. As a PP acoustic pipe, Silenta delivers around 30% better sound insulation and eliminates corrosion, ensuring a longer maintenance-free lifespan.

What types of buildings is Silenta suitable for?

Silenta systems are suitable for residential buildings, apartments, hotels, hospitals, office buildings, schools, libraries, and community centers. The system tier is selected based on the acoustic requirements of each project, making it a flexible building acoustics drainage solution.

Which Silenta system do I need for my project's acoustic requirements?

Silenta Premium is recommended for luxury apartments, premium hotels, and hospitals targeting ≤20 dB(A) noise emission level. Silenta 3A suits standard apartments, offices, and schools targeting ≤25 dB(A). HT-PP offers high-density PP (HD-PP) drainage for projects where acoustic performance is not the primary requirement.

What pipe diameters are available?

Silenta Premium is available in DN 58–200 mm, Silenta 3A in DN 32–200 mm, and HT-PP in DN 32–160 mm, supporting a wide range of soundproof drainage system layouts.

What acoustic performance does Silenta achieve?

Silenta Premium achieves 12 dB(A) at a 4 l/s flow rate with acoustic clamps, delivering excellent acoustic performance. Silenta 3A achieves 15 dB(A) at the same flow rate.

How is Silenta installed?

Silenta uses push-fit socket connections with specialized gaskets. No special tools, glue, or welding are required, helping reduce installation-related noise and ensure consistent on-site quality.

Can Silenta handle hot water and chemicals?

Yes. All Silenta systems handle domestic wastewater from 0°C to 90°C, with brief exposure up to 97°C. They are acid-resistant and suitable for pH levels from 2 to 12, supporting domestic and light industrial applications.

Is Silenta fire-safe?

Silenta systems are flame-retardant and halogen-free. In the event of fire, they release no toxic halogen-based gases, supporting occupant safety and acoustic compliance requirements.

What support does GF provide during project phases?

GF offers 360° support across all project phases—from feasibility and design to installation and operation—ensuring each acoustic drainage system meets performance and compliance targets.
