Mission Critical Reliability in all Seasons: GF presents Heat Trace Solutions by GF Urecon for insulated piping systems
Engineered for reliability and performance, GF Urecon heat tracing is a complete solution - from design to application - that provides crutial protection against freezing in insulated and pre-insulated plastic or metal piping - both above and below ground. Designed for optimal efficiency, Heat Trace is a proven solution for the uninterrupted water and wastewater transport in demanding environments such as mining operations and municipal infrastructure at ambient temperatures below 0°C.
Pre-insulated piping systems play an important role across industries and applications as they provide energy savings, thermal efficiency and reliable performance. However, many countries and regions are faced with severe sub-zero temperatures during winter, pushing conventional piping systems to their limits. With a wide range of cable types, thermostats and accessories, alongside GF engineering expertise, Heat Trace solutions provide essential freeze protection and winterization from municipal water infrastructure to process maintenance and mining.
The configurable options within the GF Urecon Heat Trace portfolio meet diverse project requirements with precision and reliability. Customers can indeed choose from a range of advanced heating options, including the off-the-shelf constant watt THERMOCABLE®, a parallel-resistance heating strip suitable for any metal or plastic piping, or the Series Type Thermocable LR, engineered for extended pipe runs of up to 3,659 m (12,000 ft) or more from a single power source. For residential and commercial applications, GF’s self-regulating cables deliver cost-effective, energy-efficient freeze protection and temperature maintenance – automatically adjusting heat output in response to ambient conditions.
Completing the Heat Trace portfolio, GF Urecon offers thermostats and accessories that provide both precise control and seamless installation. From high performance electronic thermostats to simple mechanical units, these systems are capable of managing heating loads up to 600 Vac, and GF’s engineering team will recommend the best option depending on the type of heat tracing cable selected, and the application. A comprehensive selection of accessories, including power and end termination kits, splice kits, power feed kits, and custom solutions such as indicator lights is also available to ensure every installation is both secure and efficient.
To streamline every stage of the heat tracing process, from design to custom calculations and installation recommendations, GF Urecon offers technical support backed by experienced engineers. Combined with GF’s comprehensive portfolio of pre-insulated thermoplastic pipes, these services enable end-to-end solutions that speed up the installation and ensure year-round freeze protection.
Derrick Brown, Managing Director at GF Canada, comments: “In Canada, we are no strangers to harsh winters that put a strain on vital infrastructure –a low flow or frozen pipe can be dangerous, even deadly. Our engineers and specialists personally work closely with our customers to design best-in-class systems incorporating complementary heat tracing and factory pre-insulated piping. Coming from a single source, our customers are assured that these are engineered for our customers’ specific application and unique installation requirements.”
